TRAINEE WORK TRADE

The purpose of the Trainee Work Trader program is to allow Interns and Guest Traders, without previous work experience, to be eligible for a Work Trader position. Interns and Guest Traders who have completed the full length of their program have the option to apply for a Trainee Work Trader position. Trainee Work Trading leading to Work Trading may offer you a longer stay in a tropical environment and a chance to be more involved in the evolution of Kanekiki.

To be clear, you must have recently completed either an Internship or Guest Trader visit with us to be eligible to apply for a Trainee Work Trader position.

How it works...

  1. Mention your interest in a Trainee Work Trade position in your Internship or Guest Trader application.

  2. Complete your full Internship program or Guest Trader stay.  Eligibility assessment.

  3. If accepted, complete your 6-week Trainee Work Trader program.  Eligibility assessment.

  4. If accepted, complete a 4-week trial Work Trade period.  Eligibility assessment .

  5. If accepted, continue as a Work Trader for the agreed upon time.

Trainee Work Traders are required to work 3 hours a day, five days a week, for six weeks.  This work may be harder or more repetitive by nature. Trainee Work Traders need to be prepared to take on more responsibility and initiative.

Throughout your Internship or Guest Trading stay, you will be assessed on the following:

  • Your willingness to participate

  • Ability to follow clear instructions

  • Work efficiency and safety

Check out our Work Trade page to see the kind of work you may be involved in.

In addition to working 3 hours daily, Trainee Work Traders pay a daily fee of $10 in exchange for accommodation, seasonal food from the land and access to community activities.

You will be required to pay a refundable Surety Bond of $250 when you are accepted for a Work Trade position.  This Bond will be refunded to you at the end of your agreed Work Trade period, given that you have honored all agreements with us.

After the Trainee Work Trader program is completed, we have a four-week trial Work Trading period.  When you become a Work Trader, we ask that you commit to a minimum agreed stay of 3 months.

If you’re interested in the Trainee Work Trader option after your Internship or Guest Trade, please let us know on your initial application.

I conquered fears I didn't think I could overcome. I found the most down to earth people that I loved to be around  and call community. Thank you for sharing your fruit, time, huts, knowledge and love with me. I am so touched!
