Kanekiki is a low-fat, raw vegan community on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Our fruit forest hosts nearly 100 varieties of tropical fruit trees. We are working toward full food sustainability, and though we have a long way to go, we are learning day by day how to best foster growth in this tropical environment.
The heart of Kanekiki is community. We aim to cultivate a supportive environment of authentic expression giving each of us a sense of belonging. We often meet outside of work hours to deepen our connections with one another and also to simply have fun venturing the island, planning movie nights and playing games. Together we create, work, play, and live in harmony with each other and with nature.
KANEKIKI & COVID-19
COVID-19 has affected our guests traveling to and from the farm, and those currently on the farm. Flights have been unexpectedly cancelled, some countries (including Hawaii) have mandatory two week quarantines for people flying in, and the farmers market, where we buy food from weekly, has been closed. We are anticipating complications such as these for at least the next few months.
We are still accepting new arrivals, keeping in mind that Hawaii has a mandatory 14 day travel quarantine in place, which means that your first two weeks on the island will need to be spent in full quarantine. New guests can do this in a hotel of their choosing or on the farm itself. This travel quarantine will be in effect until the end of June, with the possibility of it being extended further.
Our goal is to do everything we can to keep our guests safe while slowing the spread of the virus. It's important to us to work with individuals and we'll be doing the best we can to meet the needs of our guests and community in the new situations we find ourselves in. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us.
We'd love to be able to offer refunds to all involved - especially if they are unable to travel due to governmental restrictions or cancelled flights. As Kanekiki is a small business and runs not for profit, we just don't have the funds to refund everybody. It's important to us that you're not out of pocket for a trip that never happened. We recommend postponing your stay with us until risk dies down. Of course, any money you've already paid can be applied to a future stay. In the event that you are forced to cancel please assume we would be unable to refund you. However if postponing doesn't work for you and Kanekiki has the funds to spare we are more than willing to refund what we can.
