Cancellation Policy

Work Trader cancellation policy:

We ask a “Surety Bond” of our Work Traders, this is fully refundable once the agreed time and work commitment is completed. Please read our Cancellation Policy below for details. We want to be sure to honor our commitment to our Work Traders and we ask that they be willing to be accountable in return.

Refund of Surety Bond: Upon acceptance, Work Traders pay a “Surety Bond” of $250 to guarantee their place at Kanekiki. The “Surety Bond” is fully refundable up until 120 days before the mutually agreed arrival date. The “Surety Bond” is repaid to the Work Trader after their agreed time commitment to a “Work Traders” position is complete and they have willingly undertaken work as agreed during that time.

(We will not ask you to do something dangerous and we will give you choices on a daily basis. We imagine you will grow and learn from your Kanekiki experience not just about fruit farming/living in the tropics, but by making a commitment to being in community and holding our agreements).

Your Work Trade place is not guaranteed until your “Surety Bond” is paid. Payment for the bond is due within 5 working days of receiving your Welcome email.

If for some reason, within 120 days of your agreed arrival date you find you are unable to arrive on our mutually agreed arrival date, your “Surety Bond” will not be refunded but may be applied to a time when you are able to take up the Work Trade offer, at a later date. This will be at the discretion of Kanekiki management – you may be asked to provide compelling evidence of your need of an extension.

We understand that most other farms do not ask a Surety Bond, and if you do not wish to participate in this way we understand and wish you well. We believe that Kanekiki offers a unique community experience / opportunity and we invite you to take up the Kanekiki Work Trade Challenge in the belief that you will grow and enjoy the experience.

Intern cancellation policy:  

Refund period: All but the non refundable deposit is fully refundable up until 120 days before the mutually agreed arrival date. 

The non refundable deposit of $750 will be applied to the full fee, when the arrival date is confirmed more than 120 days before arrival. The deposit should be paid within 5 working days of you receiving our Welcome email inviting you to take up a position at Kanekiki. Your place is not guaranteed until your deposit has been paid. Payment of the remaining balance of $1000 is due in full at least 120 days before your arrival date. 

If acceptance is less than 120 days from your arrival date, the full payment of $1750 will be due within 5 working days of you receiving our Welcome email, inviting you to take up an internship at Kanekiki.

If for some reason, within 120 days of your agreed arrival date you find you are unable to arrive on our mutually agreed arrival date, your fee will not be refunded but may be applied to a time when you are able to take up the Internship, at a later date. This will be at the discretion of Kanekiki management – you may be asked to provide compelling evidence of your need of an extension.

Guest or Guest Trader cancellation policy:

Refund period: all but the non refundable deposit is refundable up until 120 days before the mutually agreed arrival date.

The non refundable deposit of 50% will be applied to the full fee for your mutually agreed period of stay when the arrival date is confirmed more than 120 days before arrival. The deposit should be paid within 5 working days of you receiving our Welcome email inviting you to take up a position at Kanekiki. Your place is not guaranteed until your deposit has been paid. Payment of the remaining balance is due in full at least 120 days before your arrival date.

If acceptance is less than 120 days from your arrival date, the full payment of will be due within 5 working days of you receiving our Welcome email inviting you to take up a position at Kanekiki.

If for some reason, within 120 days of your agreed arrival date you find you are unable to arrive on our mutually agreed arrival date, your fee will not be refunded but may be applied to a time when you are able to take up an offer of an arrival date to either stay as a Guest Trader, Guest or Intern, at a later date. This will be at the discretion of Kanekiki management – you may be asked to provide compelling evidence of your need of an extension.
